One-of-a-Kind | 8” x 8” Oil on Canvas
How many times have we all had one of those evenings where nothing big was planned, yet it turned into an amazing memory? For me, one that will last forever started as my daughter and I sat outside on a warm night. Out of the sounds of frogs and crickets came two owls, calling back and forth from the rooftop. We leaned in, pointing and listening, as the click clack of their running feet echoed above us. I remember it like yesterday.
That’s where Reflected Intensity began. I wanted to capture the connection that people like myself, who love wildlife (especially owls), feel every time they have a moment together witnessing something rare and wild. My daughter still remembers those nights, and I do too, because the simplest encounters can become the ones that stay with us.
Reflected Intensity is part of my Raptor Series and the first in a trio of 8x8 owl portraits. It is a painting about presence and about memory, about what it feels like to see something extraordinary right where you live.

About the Artwork:
The Eyes That Hold a Story
When I was painting this piece, I kept coming back to the eyes. There’s something about an owl’s gaze that isn’t just sharp, it’s knowing. I wanted to capture that feeling of being seen, the way an owl locks onto something with complete focus, as if it already understands more than you do.
With Reflected Intensity, I became absorbed in the details of each feather, layering oils to create depth and movement. But it was the eye that anchored everything. There is a fire in it, a quiet strength, a moment of stillness before action.
Owls have always fascinated me, not just for their beauty, but for how they exist between worlds — silent, hidden, and completely in control. This painting is about that balance between light and shadow, stillness and intensity.
If you’ve ever locked eyes with an owl, you know the feeling. That rare moment where time slows, and something untamed stares back. Reflected Intensity is that moment, captured on canvas.
