About the Artwork:
The Foundation Revealed
Tufted Twilight is the second portrait inspired by evenings when my young daughter and I would listen to two owls calling from our rooftop. Those nights were about spending time together, listening to the world. We had such exciting moments listening to the running, clickity feet and soft hoots that our ordinary moments became unforgettable. The humid air, the stillness, and the crickets and frogs in chorus cheering on the owls, along with the rhythm of those distant calls, left an impression I’ve returned to more than once.
With my love of owls and my experiences with them, I wanted to expand the beauty of owls in art from my Reflected Intensity eagle owl to my Tufted Twilight. This horned owl has such expression, like there’s really something to say, with his open mouth telling the truth to the world in a bold fashion.
Each painting I create begins with ink, a structural sketch that later disappears under gesso and oil. The Tufted Twilight Silk Art Tie brings that foundation back into view, turning the framework that usually lies hidden beneath paint into a refined, tactile artwork.
In a continuation of a story of mystery, wonder, and closeness, Tufted Twilight extends the evolution of owls in my art, a symbol of perception, strength, and the unspoken language between memory and creation.
