This ornament is part of my Winter Whimsy series, a seasonal collection of original bird artworks reimagined with festive overlays, swirling motifs, and bright, joyful details. Each piece blends fine art with holiday magic to create a collectible celebration of nature’s beauty.

About the Artwork:

This ornament features a Costa’s Hummingbird, captured in a moment of stillness atop a budded orchid tree branch. The original artwork, titled Broken Amethyst, was created to explore the contrast between softness and strength, how even the smallest creatures can hold presence and purpose.

Drawn to the iridescent violets and blues of the hummingbird’s throat, I echoed those jewel tones in the background, inspired by the texture of petals and the airiness of late-season blooms. For the Winter Whimsy version, I styled the background with playful swirls and warm berry tones to bring a sense of holiday joy without losing the contemplative feel of the original.

This piece is a celebration of balance, between color and calm, nature and ornament, fleeting moment and lasting memory.
