About the Artwork:
Stormy Feather captures the quiet tension before a storm, that moment of stillness when nature pauses, and the air feels charged with energy. The white-tailed kite has a graceful yet intense presence, and I wanted this piece to reflect both its delicacy and power.
When I created this work, I thought about the fragile balance between motion and rest. Kites often hover in one spot, wings adjusting with quiet precision, even as the sky shifts around them. That’s the energy I poured into this painting, a moment of still flight, filled with purpose.
I used subtle washes and layering to create softness in the feathers, while the hand-applied acrylic embellishments add texture and shimmer that mimics light catching on a feather’s edge. Each print becomes a little different because of these hand-painted touches, every one a small, meditative pause captured in motion.
The fine art watercolor paper enhances the natural tones and texture, giving each piece an organic, almost atmospheric presence. Stormy Feather is a reminder to remain steady in uncertain skies, to stay focused, calm, and watchful, even when the winds shift.
