About the Artwork:
Bluebirds have always held a special place in my heart. Growing up in Georgia, my family had a large yard with a window sill bird feeder, where we could watch the vibrant birds come and go while making meals or eating together. The bluebirds, with their striking blue feathers, were always a favorite, a symbol of peace and beauty in nature. My father, a proud member of the Audubon Society, made sure to care for these birds, hanging bluebird houses around the yard to provide them a safe space to call home.
When I created Reverie In the Canopy, I wanted to capture not just their beauty, but the sense of peace they bring to the world. There’s a stillness in their presence, a quiet energy, that’s so powerful yet often overlooked. The bluebird represents that balance between gentleness and strength, calm and vitality—just like the feeling of seeing them land near the window, perched with purpose.
In the piece, I used soft tones and subtle textural layers to bring out the ethereal quality of the bird, much like the gentle presence of bluebirds in the yard. The hand-embellishment with acrylic paint adds depth, making the print feel as if the bird is perched right before you, capturing that fleeting moment of connection between nature and the viewer.
The watercolor paper I’ve used adds an organic, natural feel to the piece, while the embellishments bring the details to life. Every stroke I add is a personal touch, reflecting the quiet beauty of the bluebird and the peace it symbolizes. It’s about finding joy in the small moments and connecting with the natural world around us.
